Mother Dairy has introduced India’s first naturally degradable milk pouch, marking a significant advancement in sustainable packaging solutions for the dairy industry. The innovative packaging is designed to decompose into a bioavailable wax in soil within a few years, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional plastic packaging that can persist in the environment for centuries.
Developed through four years of dedicated research and testing, the new pouch aims to address the challenge of fugitive plastic waste while ensuring that consumers do not bear any additional costs. The packaging will be introduced on June 5 for Mother Dairy’s cow milk variant across the Delhi-NCR market, a category that currently contributes nearly 35 percent of the company’s regional milk sales. The initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and promoting sustainable consumption practices.
In addition to the packaging launch, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Mother Dairy have indicated that the outlook for milk production remains stable despite potential weather-related risks associated with El Niño conditions. Supported by strong demand during the summer season, which delivered sales growth of more than 30 percent, Mother Dairy is targeting overall business growth of 20 percent and aims to achieve revenue of ₹24,000 crore by FY2027.
